„Creative Processes in Psychotherapie and Psychiatry“

Scientific Introduction

Dynamic Psychiatry means from its beginning the integration of the psychodynamic understanding of personality and unconscious processes for the treatment of severely mentally ill patients. Günter Ammon has developed Dynamic Psychiatry further to a group dynamically oriented science which considers the conscious and unconscious as inter-relational and social energetic dynamics and processes and a central agens for human development and creativity.

Creativity means potentiality for development which is inherent in every human being. Every psychotherapeutic and developmental process of a human being means a creative process by differentiating and demarcating from unconscious destructive or deficient group dynamics. For experiencing an identity developmental process by gaining creativity a constructive group dynamically surrounding or social energetic field is necessary «thus, creativity always implies a gain in structure to a change in personality and the group […] creativity touches the person as a whole and is expressed in a creative life style in a way that one’s own feelings, thoughts, and actions have enough space and that the person respects himself as well as others». (Ammon 1982, p. 727).

Creative processes in psychotherapy and psychiatry will always challenge for new thinking, new research findings and new treatment aspects for activating and creativating arrested identity development. To find new possibilities, hypothesis, assumptions and new creative conditions in our fast changing world will be the common interest of our congress. We are hoping that the encounter of scientists from various disciplines like medicine, psychiatry, psychology, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy could promote the integration of interdisciplinary research.

It is our wish that also interdisciplinary findings from sociology, philosophy, pedagogy, the cultural anthropology and others will facilitate the discourse on this topic. Furthermore, it is our wish that at this WADP congress in 2017 the sciences of mankind can contribute in a way that problems related to creativity can be perceived, consolidated and integrated in the service of our patients.

Again we would like to thank the international organizations, the WPA, the WASP, the WFMH, EAP, ECCP and ICPCM and World Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation for their support. We are also exceptionally thankful for the excellent cooperation of the organizing Italian WADP branch members and the co-workers of Erich Fromm International Foundation. We are looking very much forward welcoming you in Florence, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, filled with historical relics and artistic masterpieces by the greatest masters of Humanism and the Renaissance.

This will be a wonderful creative atmosphere for our congress.
